Sydney Australia

Places to Eat

Sydney, as the largest city in Australia has many food choices. Besides the well renowned Australian meats (steak and lamb) there are many different types of cuisines due to the diverse background of the Australian population.

Woodcut (map)

A high-end steak restaurant in the Crown Casino complex. The food is amazing and the environment is very comfortable with an open kitchen! Highly recommend to go if you are after some good Aussie steaks!

Some dishes that I highly recommend are

  • Hasselback potato, it is slowly cooked in a pan where the chef slowly spoons the sauce it is cooking in over the potato during the cooking process
  • Octopus
  • Of course steak! They are grilled over an open fire which you can watch them cook!

Hurricane's Grill & Bar Bondi Beach (map)

The best ribs in Sydney at a reasonable price!

Ribs and Rumps Olympic Park (map)

A restaurant chain, so look for one near you! It is great value for some great Aussie steak (and lamb)!

Sydney Fish Market (map)

Either eat in one of the restaurant or buy takeaway from the multiple fish shops and eat outside!

Chiosco by Ormeggio (map)

A little further out but the location and food is amazing; very relaxing as you are in the local marina and very reasonable corkage!

Pancakes On The Rocks (map)

As advertised, pancakes! They are chain now, but I still like going to the original store at The Rocks!

The Great Northern Hotel (map)

A great way to experience the local Australian pub food!

Things to Do

There are lots to do when in Sydney including some day-trips or short trips outside of Sydney.

Golden Gaytime

This is a must have ice cream when in Australia! There are new flavours but the original flavour which is a combination of toffee and vanilla-flavoured ice cream, dipped in a thin layer of chocolate and coated in delicious, crunchy biscuit crumbs!

Blue Mountains

A day-trip to the Blue Mountains is possible as it is only a 1.5 hour drive from Sydney if you do not have enough time during your stay, but even better is staying a night or two in the relaxing Blue Mountains! You can also look for day-tours from Sydney where they will take you to the major tourist sites such as

  • Three Sisters (map)
  • Scenic World (map) - where you can take the world steepest train into the valley
  • Wentworth Falls (map)
  • Blackhealth
  • Bush walking and hiking
    • Grand Canyon Walk (map)
    • Three Sisters to Scenic World (in the valley and on the ridge)
    • Wentworth Falls

Hunter Valley

A wine region outside of Sydney, which you can do as part of a day-trip (including a day-tour) but better if you have a few days to spend there and try wines from various boutique winery and restaurants!
